We’re converting a double-decker bus into a community greenhouse where we can grow fresh produce for inclusion in our food parcels for distribution to local residents most in need. Thanks to a successful fundraising campaign in 2023, we’ve been able to make a start on our plans, after we raised £15,357 via Spacehive.

Our staff, along with a great team of volunteers, are in the process of creating a buzzing community greenhouse space in Walker, where we will grow fresh organic produce for local residents. Volunteers will plan, plant, grow, harvest and distribute the produce whilst interacting in this vibrant ‘indoor-outdoor’ environment.

Due to the cost-of-living crisis, local residents struggle to access and afford fresh, healthy eating options. This exciting project will provide the opportunity to maintain nutritious dietary options and also enhance health and wellbeing by promoting physical activity – both indoors and out, reducing social isolation, and helping to grow friendships and community connections.

As well as transforming the bus’s interior, local artists have been invited to contribute ideas to rejuvenate its exterior and showcase our bountiful bus. This eye-catching addition to the riverside landscape is now helping to raise awareness of our charity and our contribution to the community.
