Colin White

Colin White, 52, first attended Building Futures East in May 2011 after losing his job as a pool lifeguard. Colin had a number of qualifications when he came to Building Futures East including BTEC National Diploma in Leisure, ASA Swimming Teacher Level 2 and AoFA Emergency First Aid at Work but he soon realised the importance of IT when seeking employment and knew he had to improve his IT skills.

Robert Chambers, Vocational Skills Tutor at Building Futures East and a close friend of Colin’s, encouraged him to attend a ‘drop-in session’ to find out what options were available to him and he was enrolled on the Entry 3 Award for Beginners IT with Tutor David Vasey. Colin’s successful completion of this qualification lead him on to the Level 1 Award and, feeling more confident now about gaining employment, he started to attend the Work Club.

It was at the Work Club were Colin applied for the position of Night Porter at Malmaison and after three intensive interviews he got the job and started on his new career path in September this year! Colin has progressed incredibly quickly and is already taking the next step on his career ladder by currently training to become Night Manager at the hotel. Colin says this wouldn’t have been possible without the IT qualifications that he gained at Building Futures East and still wants to further develop his IT skills to give him an even greater chance of developing his career so he has enrolled on the Level 2 Certificate for IT Users too!

“Facilities are excellent and their training opens up doors to people from all walks of life,” says Colin. He also added, “If you are given training by highly qualified staff you can only succeed!  All members of staff are enthusiastic and happy to help and I can’t thank Building Futures East enough for all the support they have given me.”

From all the staff at Building Futures East, “We congratulate you on your success so far and look forward to supporting you through the rest of your career in any way we can.  Well done Colin!”
