Blooming Monday

BFE Level 3 Certificate for Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care learners are promoting Mental Health Research UK’s Campaign, “Blooming Monday” on 21st January 2013, to raise awareness of Seasonal Affective Disorder and depression.

Blue Monday is the third Monday in January; it is gloomy, dark, and allegedly the most depressing day of the year and comes after the Christmas festivities have ended.  At least 1 in 8 people in the UK are thought to suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder and 1 out of every 2 people will suffer from depression during their lifetime so with this in mind, the concept of the campaign is simple:  everyone wears their brightest clothes that day. Even if workplaces usually require sombre attire, we hope that on this one day a year people will be encouraged to brighten up so that instead of Blue Monday, it will become Blooming Monday!

BFE learners and staff plan to turn what is recognised as the most depressive day of the year  into a celebration of colour by wearing their brightest clothes and  raising awareness of both conditions out in the local community.  So why not join in at your home or place of work by ditching the black and grey drab attire and wearing some bright clothes for charity on Blue Monday!
