Building Futures East’s Chief Executive Anthony Woods-Waters is currently in Little Rock, USA, visiting community projects. Read Day 2 of his blog here…
“Early start visiting William E. “Bill” Clark Presidential Park Wetlands in downtown Little Rock. This is an enviable environmental protection and learning amenity. Separated from the river by a levee, a walkway has been constructed around what had been swamp land. The walkway is part of a more ambitious trail for walkers and cyclists that showcases the wonderfully rich and diverse Arkansan landscape. The construction of the park is well underway and when planted out and eventually opened will provide the city with a further unique visitor attraction.”
“Next was the most fascinating visit and meeting with Dr. Robert McGehee at UAMS. Bobby is Professor of Neonatology and Dean of the Graduate School. Welcoming and hugely engaging Bobby talked us though aspects of his research work (thankfully in terms we were able to absorb). Clear synergies with our own Centre for Life – a remarkable man doing remarkable work.”
“We then toured the LM Wind Power facility – manufacturer of wind turbine blades. Again fascinating to see at first hand work on the production of the blades and be able to discuss with Joe, Brian and Anthony aspects of the process and for me specifically issues on training and recruitment.”
“Finally a memorable visit to the Clinton Presidential Library back in downtown Little Rock. An iconic building containing the papers, artefacts together with a wide range of memorabilia from the Clinton administration. Despite displays outlining the key and historic events during this time – all of which were displayed with tremendous impact – only a small percentage is actually on display. Our guide David made the visit all the more memorable by his welcome, his knowledge and his tremendously friendly and engaging manner. It would be very easy to wander around the building and lose track of time.”
