About
Since its inception in 2006 Building Futures East has grown significantly. Established as a Company Limited by Guarantee (016261491) in May 2007 it became a member of the Development Trusts Association (F352) in March 2008 and was awarded Charitable Status (1125555) in August 2008.
The organisation concentrates its activity in the areas of social enterprise and vocational skills training as a vehicle for community regeneration.
Building Futures East offer a range of employment, vocational and personal development training and work experience opportunities to individuals from the disadvantaged communities in Newcastle and indeed from across the sub-region. These opportunities are delivered from our base on Walker Riverside in the East End of Newcastle.
The organisation is strongly value driven and its ethos remains that of local service delivery, high quality training and associated support in a context of partner and employer buy-in, strong local connection and underpinned by a philosophy of compassion and service. Much of our training is provided free to residents from areas of disadvantage north and south of the River Tyne and we are located in Newcastle’s Walker Riverside.
Intrinsic to our model therefore is a flexibility to respond to emerging opportunity and wherever possible to maximise the benefits of these opportunities in the form of learning and employment in support of the most disadvantaged and marginalised.
We have established an enterprise and development company, FutureBuild as a wholly owned subsidiary of the charity through which much of our commercial activity runs. As a social enterprise offer a comprehensive commercial service in Environmental and Building Maintenance. This then dovetails with community support programmes delivered by the company on behalf of the Charity, for example we provide a free gardening maintenance service to local elderly and vulnerable residents that also trains and employs local young people.
The organisation is underpinned by strong and engaged governance. Building Futures East has a board who are directors of the company and trustees of the charity. There is a separate board of directors for FutureBuild some however acting in a capacity for both charity and subsidiary.
